Lucid dreaming occurs when one becomes consciously aware of dreaming while still asleep. These dreams typically emerge from non-lucid dreams during REM sleep.
I crafted this piece over a week, dedicating four hours each night, without any prior planning, as a personal challenge. As I composed the opening, I continued to develop it by incorporating a variety of textures, devices, instruments, harmonies, dynamics, modulations, modes, ranges, timbres, and styles. For instance, I utilised the Dorian mode, diatonic scales, extended harmony, contrapuntal techniques, fanfare-like passages, abrupt modulations, and unexpected harmonic shifts.
As you’ll notice, the piece has no home key and rarely revisits previous themes. "Lucid Dreams" unfolds as a continuous and dramatic experience, blending joyful, suspenseful, and terrifying themes. The music gradually intertwines with Bb major, Eb major, and Ab major featuring fewer key signatures. Suspended notes, extended harmony, timbres, and dynamics play a crucial role in reaching the climax. The piece begins in one mode, progresses through various keys, and concludes in entirely different ones. This is "Lucid Dreams."
